Welcome to the home of the…

2008 10th Annual “LakersCentral” NBA Playoffs Tournament!

That’s right! This will be the 10th year I have run this tournament. I used to run it throughout college (and a year or so after that), but haven’t done it for a couple years. Check out the page for an old tourney I ran in 2001. Haha… that takes me back.

Since it all began, I’ve improved a bit on my web design skills :.), and honed in the best way to run this tournament. Also, there’s been some additional technology (i.e. Paypal) that would now enable friends (who may not see me that often) to participate by transferring their entry fee over the internet. I’ll once again be putting everyone’s brackets online, and posting the scores as we go, so you can view how you’re doing throughout the tournament.

To begin, download the bracket in MS Excel, or view a picture of it. You can email me the Excel bracket after you fill it out, or just email me in text format. Any way you wanna do it, all I need to know is what team you think will win each series, and the number of game you think they’ll win it in. I need that filled out and to me by Friday night (4/18/08). No exceptions! Turn in the entry fee with your bracket if possible. If you’re gonna see me before Sunday (4/20), get me the $10 entry fee in person. If not, Paypal the entry fee (there’s a $1 transaction fee they charge).

I love this game!Good luck! If you dont choose the Lakers to win it all, you may not have much of a chance tho ;.) haha. It’s playoff time! I love this game!

    Option 2:
Send your ten dollars directly to me and tell yourself, “I gave it my best shot”.

Have you compared your picks to the answer key that I send you yet?

… am I the only one in this bracket? Shit…

Hey folks. Its 5am & I cant even think about putting all the brackets up right now. But rest assured I’ll have em up tomorrow. Looks like we got 14 people… possibly 16 if my roomate gets me his bracket tomorrow morning. Still have yet to decide if 2 or 3 places are gonna pay out (I’m leaning toward 3). Playoffs start 9:30AM. Doubt i’ll see that game…but with an injury riddled & disjointed Cavs team… Wizards in 6 baby! Good night (or morning?) all.

Shady… Brian was up till 5am mathematically analyzing the submitted brackets to calculate which of his picks now give him the best odds of winning.

P.S. Hey can I submit my bracket on Monday? I want to see how the first games play out.

Duncan hitting a three at the buzzer? What kind of shit is that??

The Spurs got lucky - they’ll lose Game 2. Well I’m hoping.

@BK - My comment above certainly lacked the tounge-in-cheek humor that I intended it to. A few well-placed emoticons would have changed the entire tone. My bad.

OK… finally got some of the brackets online. I gotta find a better way to do that. It took forever. Maybe next year, I’ll create a form to fill out & submit on the internet. That way I don’t have to do data entry & transfer all over the place. Problem is… 6 people gave me their bracket over the phone, 5 filled out in person, and only 3 by email. Get up on technology people!

P.S. I got round 1 picks up so far… should have the rest up later today. ~B

@Hanson… I’ll do it next year online… me and you heads up. haha.

The rest of people’s brackets are now completed. Hanson… you copied me… seriously get out of my head. Wizards better step up or I’m in trouble.

If I recall correctly, my bracket was the first one finished, thus you copied me…

    There’s gonna be 3 places (unless theres a tie)….

    1st place: $80
    2nd place: $50
    3rd place: $20

In case of a tie… add up the places that tied, and split evenly.

Next year, I’ll probably re-institute “upset bonus points”… based on the teams record instead of seed. If you look at the previous year’s tourney, it described how upset bonus points worked. Just a good way to make it more interesting and have less chance of a tie.

K, everyone’s first round scores are up (see the first link in the links section above). I’ll try to update it more often now. It looks like everyone is still in it, but some will need a lot of help from bonus points to catch up.
