The Elements Of Good Poker Play & The Qualities Of Champion Poker Players
Poker is a complex game with almost too many factors involved to count. Some elements you can control, some you cant. Inexperienced players often think that its “all in the cards”. While luck may govern the outcome of any one hand or evening- a good poker player will come out ahead over the long run. There’s much more skill involved than bad players would like to admit, and much more luck than good players would desire there to be.

I’ve been a casual (and at times a serious) poker player for nearly as long as I can remember. I grew up watching my grandparents & family play cards, and I started playing for money somewhere around 14 years old. These games were obviously for nickels and dimes, and the luck factor ran high, but I was still able to win most of the time. Nearly 17 years later, I’ve never had a year where I lost more than I won (I know this because I keep a nearly-OCD budget, especially when it comes to gambling). But enough about me for now.
In this series of articles, I’m setting out to describe to others (especially those who feel the game is merely luck), the qualities which make someone a good poker player. There are many more factors going on in a poker game than most people are aware of. Becoming aware of these things, and aware of the elements that determine the outcome of the game– is the first step to becoming a good poker player. That’s what I’ll give you… developing each skill & character quality is up to you.
Stay tuned, and until you can survive without it, may luck be yours.
